Every journey is a book being written. These photographs are the notes I left in the margins.
They are the gondola gliding unhurried down the Grand Canal, the seagull keeping watch on a Venetian bridge, the afternoon light falling through branches onto old Bolzano stone. They are also the secondhand books tumbling from a forgotten shopfront, the old dog dreaming among antiques, the mother and child standing at the edge of the lagoon, looking toward something we cannot see.
These moments appear in no guidebook, no AI-generated itinerary. They simply happen, quietly, at the edges of the grand narrative, in the silences between the famous sights. A table by the water holds a vase of flowers, waiting for someone who may never arrive. In Tivoli, a single cloud drifts lazily above a shadowed alley.
Perhaps what makes a city truly unforgettable is never the landmark, but these weightless accidents of light and life.
